TALES FROM THE THRIFT

Attorney and a millennial thrift junkie

My name is Stefany and I’m a millennial thrift junkie! I’m an attorney by day, but on nights and weekends, you can catch me at a yard sale or the local thrift! I’m married to my best friend and we have 3 cats: Henri, Glenn and Paddy. I love all things 90s and 2000s nostalgia, and I have a passion for sharing all my nostalgic finds from thrifts, sales and flea markets.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I’m a millennial thrift junkie who loves all things 90s and 2000s nostalgia!

Tell us how you started thrifting and selling

When I was a kid, my dad and I often spent time together at flea markets and yard sales, so I guess you could say, it’s a family tradition! My dad was an antique collector and he always had an eye for unique items.

What are your favorite things to collect?

I LOVE collecting toys that I remember from childhood, most often fast food toys from the 80s and 90s, ESPECIALLY McDonalds Barbies from the 90s. I was a fast food kid, and those toys always remind me of a simpler time.

Your audience loves to see all the fun finds you see! What are some of the coolest things you’ve found?

I would say the coolest find to me was the Lil Miss Singing Mermaid. That had been a white whale for me for awhile, so it was so thrilling to finally find her.

Most surreal experience on this creator journey?

When Emma Roberts and Bianca Del Rio started following me! A huge “what is life?” moment for me!

Favorite toy growing up?

Definitely my Lil Miss Singing Mermaid! I was obsessed with The Little Mermaid and anything mermaid related as a kid.

What is something you’ve been searching for to collect but haven’t found yet?

I have been on the hunt for the chip and dip pool set! The chip bowl is a pool and the salsa dish is a little hot tub with a couple of people chillin out in it.

Favorite Barbie?

Definitely Mermaid Barbie from 1991! She was my very first Barbie and I have the best memories of playing with her.

What content do you love creating the most?

I LOVE when I find what seems like something so random (such as vintage loose leaf paper from Toys R Us) at the thrift store, but it really unlocks deep memories of childhood. I love sharing those experiences because they just satisfy a random spot in your memory, that you may have even forgotten existed.

What content do you feel your audience loves to see most?

I think people love to be taken back to a time where maybe they didn’t have as many responsibilities or life seemed simpler and happier. I find everything from random sealed fabric softener sheets from the 90s to toys that were very popular, that can take people straight back to that time.

We saw you recently found a Princess Diana beanie baby. Did you have any cool ones growing up?

I never got into Beanie Baby collecting actually! I had a few McDonalds ones back in the day, but that’s really it.

What 5 songs would be on the Tales From The Thrift soundtrack?

“Breathe” by Prodigy

“Alien Superstar” by Beyonce

“B.O.B.” by Outkast

“Stephanie Says” by the Velvet Underground

“Cissy Strut” by The Meters

Would you rather own a piece of Mcdonaldland playplace or a pizza hut lamp?

A Pizza Hut Lamp for sure! I played many games of table top Pac-man in our home town Pizza Hut growing up, so that would definitely be a dream.

Best cartoon theme song?

Ren & Stimpy!

A movie character that you think would be your bestie

Edward Scissorhands. He just wanted to be accepted despite being different. I feel like everyone can relate, but he has a special place in my heart.

Decade or year you miss most

I certainly miss the 90s and early 2000s the most!

A phrase you would leave for a nostalchick

β€œLife moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
